Nukleostemiinin ja ubikitiinin suhde

BACKGROUND: Proteasomal turnover. Nucleostemin (NS) in response to low
cellular GTP levels was previously shown to be MDM2-dependent without clear
mechanisms.
RESULTS: NS is ubiquitinated in cells, but its MPA-induced turnover still occurs
without ubiquitination and MDM2.
CONCLUSION: NS is ubiquitinated in cells, and its turnover is ubiquitin- and
MDM2-independent.
SIGNIFICANCE: NS ubiquitination may be important for regulation of NS function.

Summary
The protein encoded by this gene may interact with p53 and may be involved in tumorigenesis. The encoded protein also appears to be important for stem cell proliferation. This protein is found in both the nucleus and nucleolus. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]
