ECK; CTPA; ARCC2; CTPP1; CTRCT6
Summary
This gene belongs to the ephrin receptor subfamily of the protein-tyrosine kinase family. EPH and EPH-related receptors have been implicated in mediating developmental events, particularly in the nervous system. Receptors in the EPH subfamily typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats. The ephrin receptors are divided into 2 groups based on the similarity of their extracellular domain sequences and their affinities for binding ephrin-A and ephrin-B ligands. This gene encodes a protein that binds ephrin-A ligands. Mutations in this gene are the cause of certain genetically-related cataract disorders.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

From protein and gene history:
1990: cDNA cloning and characterization of ECK, an epithelial cell receptor protein tyrosine kinase in the eph/elk family of proteins.
1994:  Activation of the ECK receptor protein-tyrosine kinase stimulates PI3K activity.
1995:  Role of B61 (later:  ephrin A1) , the ligand  for ECK receptor tyrosine kinase( later: EPHA2) , in TNFalpha induced angiogenesis.
1995:  Characterization of a novel Src-like adaptor-protein that associates with ECK RTK.
1997: ECK, a human EPH-related gene, maps to 1p36.1.
2018: Plasmodium sporozoites can invade hepatocyte cells independently of the ephrin receptor A2.
2018:  Created a novel pH-dependent  membrane peptide that  binds to EphA2 and inhibits cell  migration, named TYPE7. TYPE7 binds to EphA2 and reduces Akt phosphorylation and cell  migration as affectively as EphrinA1 (EFNA1).
2018: EphA2  is a candidate target of miR-124-3p. This microRNA inhibits Glioma cell proliferation  and motility. This microRNA was found to suppress the growth, migration and invasion of glioma cells in vitro via EphA2.
2019: Targeting EphA2 with mir-124 mediates erlotinib resistance in K-RAS mutated pancreatic cancer.  EphA2 rescued by miR-124 downregulation conferred the erlotinib resistance of pancreatic cancer cell Calpain-1 with K-RAS mutation.
