 This schematic diagram illustrates the organization of the kinetochore and associated proteins at the centromere of a chromosome. The kinetochore attaches the centromere to spindle components, allowing the cell to pass through the spindle checkpoint, activate the anaphase-promoting complex, and progress through anaphase.
